Chikashi Nishiwaki
He plays a wide variety of music -Jazz, Soul, Boogie, Brazilian, Afro, Latin, Old school to new school, north to south, east to west, but only on vinyl! He started DJing while studying at university in 1987 before dropping out to hit the decks full time.
Based in Tokyo from '89 to '03, Chikashi moved to Brisbane, Australia '03-'04 where he met DJ RAVI (of "Sunnyside up" fame) and DJ Blair Stafford (Straight up).
He has now opened a club Tree Cafe in Tsuruga, Fukui, Japan where he has created an atmosphere as eclectic as his musical selection. It is located on the Japanese coast. 3 hrs from Tokyo, 1hr from Kyoto and regularly hosts the best DJs, including Nicola Conte, Gilles Peterson, Toshio Matsuura (ex.UFO), Jazztronik and soil and "pimp" sessions.
This is it, we finally got some of our favorite producers to remix a few tracks from our beloved Kafka album. Released as a Limited Edition 12 inch vinyl available in February 2010, or you can download it and check it out now. Featuring on the A side Golden Sound reworking the track Afro innay & doing a great afro house dance floor cracker full of Kafka's signature horns. Then comes Red Bantoo treating Themes of Delvechio with their funk- clavinet chilled out beats. On the B side, Chikashi Nishiwaki from Japan reworking Illumination on a Brazil styled acid jazz tip and Two Dee remixing the same track in a dub disco manner!
